Montag, Walter R. “Pete”, 93, of Richland Township. Died July 31, 2018, after an extended illness. Born Nov. 29, 1924, in Johnstown. Son of the late Aldolph and Leopoldina (Heptner) Montag. Also preceded in death by loving wife of 69 years, Ruby F. (Kring) who died Dec. 16, 2017; siblings, Dick, John, Henry, Frank, Carl, Leona, Augusta, Anna, Helen and Cecelia. Walter was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by son, Doak and daughter in law, Lois (Redington) Montag; grandchildren Ryan (Anelissa Roncal), Erin (Chris Laughman) and Michael (Megan McQuaide); great grandchildren Chase and Benjamin Laughman, Madison, Madden, and Luke Montag; and several nieces and nephews. Pete was a graduate of Dale High School and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. He was the owner/operator of Montag Tile & Marble Co and member of Bricklayers and Tilesetters Union. Pete was also a member of B.P.O.E, #175, Richland American Legion, Retired Men’s Club and Johnstown Oldtimers Baseball. He loved sports, especially baseball and managed little league and pony league teams in the Richland area for many years. Pete and Ruby enjoyed traveling and spent their winters in Port Charlotte, Fla. Our family would like to thank Dr. Awan and Oncology staff at UPMC for their compassionate care. Per Walter’s request, there will be no public viewing. A private family funeral will be held at the convenience of the family.
