Kinash – Walter A., 85, McCullough Place, formerly of Geistown. Died peacefully May 30, 2017, at McCullough Place.   Born October 3, 1931, in Johnstown. Son of the late Paul and Tekla (Olenik) Kinash. Also preceded in death by wife of more than 50 years Anna (Vinosky) Kinash; brother John Kinash; and sisters Mary Singel, Eva Adams, Olga Drosjack and Irene Marovich. Survived by brother Robert Kinash; nieces and nephews, Michael (Rosemarie) Marovich; David (Sheila) Marovich; Suzanne (Fred) Casale; Stephen (Denise) Drosjack; Donna (Greg) Gossard; and numerous other nieces and nephews; great and great- great nieces and nephews. Walter was a graduate of Johnstown High School and the Coyne Electronics School in Chicago. He was a military veteran serving in the Army National Guard and active duty during the Korean War stationed in Germany.  Walter was a pioneer in the cable television industry.  At the start of his career Walter owned and operated a television repair shop in downtown Johnstown. When the television industry was growing and cable was the latest technology, Walter went to work for Johnstown Cable Television Company wiring the city of Johnstown and bringing cable television to the area. TelePrompTer Corporation acquired the Johnstown cable system and Walter was hired as general manager.  As the cable industry and TelePrompTer grew, he was promoted to the positon of northeast regional manager.  Walter later joined Century Communications Corporation as regional manager for the eastern United States. Walter played an important role in Century’s growth during the 1980’s and was promoted to vice president of operations, a position he held until his retirement in1994. Walter traveled the country extensively during his cable television career earning him membership in the US Air Million Miles Club. Walter was also a member of the Cable Television Pioneer Club, former member of the Johnstown Rotary Club and a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber where Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 10 AM by Msgr. Raymond Balta. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Friday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.  Interment at St. Mary’s Byzantine Cemetery, Windber with military rites by Windber VFW Ritual Team. (Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com)
