Velma Catherine Buck

Buck, Velma Catherine (Holzapfel), 90, of Johnstown, passed away on January  12, 2012 at Windber Hospice. She was born June 3, 1921 in Johnstown. Daughter of George and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Rowe) Holzapfel.  Preceded in death by parents; husband, Robert K. Buck; brothers, Louis J. and William G.; and grandson, Bryon K. McDermott. Survived by son, Kenneth G. Buck, Johnstown; and daughters, Linda J. McDermott, Florida, and Sharlene J. Buck, Virginia; grandchildren, Thomas R. McDermott, and Lisa (McDermott), wife of Chad Bennett, all of Florida; and Ronald A. Ribaric, Jr., Johnstown, Kimberly L. (Ribaric) Krett, Virginia, Robert K. Ribaric, California; great grandchildren, Brent and Robert McDermott, Brandon and Brianna Bennett, and Brendan, Jarret and Sierra Krett; sister, Elizabeth Coplin, Johnstown, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Velma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was employed by Cambria County Area Agency on Aging for 23 years.  She loved animals and artwork, singing and playing the organ, and writing poems.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Friends received from 10 A.M. until time of service at 11 A.M. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland with Bishop Robin Quillon officiating. Private interment will be at Richland Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Velma.
