Kotch Jr. – Thomas A., 63, Indian Lake, formerly of Richland Township, died on September 7, 2016 at Windber Hospice from Multiple System Atrophy. This horrific degenerative neurological disease that took the life of a wonderful caring husband and father far too soon. He bravely fought to live for 9 long years and as the end neared he worried not for himself, but for those he would leave behind. Tom was born on March 2, 1953 in Windber, son of the late Thomas A. Sr. and Helen (Buben) Kotch. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Claudia H. (Weaver) Kotch; children, Jessica H., wife of Michael Fiedorowicz, South Haven, MI, and Thomas A. III, married to the former Jennifer J. Podrasky, Elizabeth City, NC; grandchildren, Ilona and Claudia Fiedorowicz, and Laura Heinrichs; brother, James A., married to the former Christine A. Spak, Windber, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Tom was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a Burger King Manager for 10 years, opening stores in the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh areas and Johnstown. In 1979, he and a childhood friend, Earl Tressler became partners in Roxbury Tire Center. He had many fantastic years there, with too many great employees and customers to mention. Tom liked working with people and truly tried to make things better for everyone he met. He helped so many people who were in need that we may never know how many. When he became ill, he struggled to continue working but eventually had to sell Roxbury Tire. Tom enjoyed fishing with his brother, Jim for as long as he was able. Jim was always there for him, watching baseball and keeping him company. He and Chris faithfully visited him at hospice and kept his spirits up. His son, Tom was with him in his last night at hospice. Thanks to everyone who called and visited him even though it was hard to do. If you sent a card or email, know he enjoyed each one. His family would also like to thank Elizabeth Tressler for her many meals and compassionate care. A special thanks to all the health care workers that gave him such loving care from Windber Home Health and then Windber Hospice. Especially Heidi and Sherri, who were there for him every day with a smile and a laugh. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Donald L. Bowman officiating. Interment will be at Berkey Cemetery. Flowers are always welcomed, but if you choose, you may contribute to Multiple System Atrophy Coalition, 9935-D Rea Road, #212, Charlotte, NC 28277 or www.multiplesystematrophy.org in memory of Thomas.
