Deitke – Thomas L. “Tom,” 90, Bon Air, went to be with the Lord on Feburary 9, 2022. Born July 11, 1931 in Johnstown, son of Charles and Elizabeth (Fombank) Deitke. Preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 64 years, Margaret “Peg” (Dernar) Deitke, brothers, Charles and Ronald; sisters, Grace Davis, Marian Codwell and Connie Roberts and godson, Richard Percinsky. He is survived by son, Kevin L. Deitke (Karen), Windber; daughter, Mary Beth Deitke, Bon Air; grandchildren, Sabrina M. and Harland J. Deitke, both Johnstown, David A. (Samantha) Rykala, Greensburg, Scott A. Rykala, Virginia, step-grandchildren, Nicole (John) Killian, Johnstown, and Daniel (Melissa) Dovala, Bedford; great-grandson and best buddy, Anderson Rykala, great granddaughters, Rachael Cameron (His sweetheart), Annaleigh and Harleigh Deitke, one great-granddaughter expected in May, and step-great-granddaughter, Emily Killian; sister, Barbara Varner, Johnstown; loving goddaughters, Mary Brickles and Peg Morcom and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Tom was a US Army Veteran. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 30 years of service working in the blast furnace. After retirement, Tom’s profession was volunteering. He was a member of Ss. Gregory and Barnabas Parish, Bon Air and the SNPJ. Tom always said that his family was his greatest accomplishment. He loved coaching his son in little league and watching his grandsons in their sporting events. His love for the Lord was unending. He was proud and honored to be a part of the group who helped build the St. Barnabas Church in Bon Air. In later years, he was the church caretaker. The family would like to thank Terri Barbin, whose daily visits were always appreciated and Kurt and Kathy Freidhoff for their love and support. The family would also like to thank CVRAA, Conemaugh Hospital’s ER Department, the staff at Good Sam 4 and AsceraCare Hospice for the loving care they gave Tom and showed to us. We would especially like to thank Dr. Stephen Matse for all of his help over the past 6 years with Tom’s care. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Home, 229-231 First Street, Conemaugh. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ss. Gregory and Barnabas Parish, Bon Air, with Fr. Callistus Elue. Committal, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
