Wissinger â Sylvester J., 88, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2014. Born on February 26, 1926 in Johnstown, son of Harry and Helen (Pfiel) Wissinger. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Phyllis. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet L. (Thomstatter) Wissinger, Johnstown; children, John W., AL and Catherine L., wife of James Bogusky, Schwenksville, PA; grandchildren, Erika, Erin, Nicole and Christopher; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Sylvester was a US Army Veteran serving during WWII. He retired in 1983 from US Steel Corp. as a fork lift operator. Sylvester was a member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Richland Walking Rise and Shine Club and Treasurer for the US Steel Breakfast Club. Sylvester enjoyed fishing, tinkering with his cars and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed dearly. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Noah S. Martin officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Windber VFW Post #4795. Private entombment will be at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum.
