Sophie Smatlak

SMATLAK, Sophie (Rusnak), 96, of Richland, went to be with the Lord June 23, 2024 at Arbutus Park Manor. Born May 4, 1928, in Sharpsville, PA, daughter of the late John and Mary (Kicin) Rusnak of Torrington, CT. Also preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Paul Smatlak; sisters, Mary Matas, Sue Cherney, Elena Rusnak, and Ann Wall; and brother John Rusnak. Sophie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by children Rebecca Prough, Johnstown; Dr. Paul Timothy (Karen) Smatlak, Johnstown; John (Elizabeth) Smatlak, Downingtown, PA.; Marlene (Rev. Tim) Miller, Marion, OH; and Pamela (Rev. Steve) Motter, Carlisle, PA. Sophie was the loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren; Marcy, Jaime, Jessica, Monica, Karissa, Marc, Marissa, Jennifer, Lisa, Kristin, Emily, Jason and Holly; and 23 great grandchildren; Jimmy, Cristina, Nicolas, John, Grant, Bronwyn, Emma, Ava, Charlotte, Lincoln, Mae, Garrett, Nora, Lucy, Judah, Elisha, Josie, Bailey, Max, Elijah, Kiera, Elena and Isaac. Sophie formerly worked as a private-duty nurse. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, craftwork, and hosting women’s Bible studies in her home. Friends received from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024 at the University Park Church of God, 4070 Elton Road, with Rev.
