Dostal – Shirley Jean, 89, of Jackson Township, passed away on October 25, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family as a result of kidney failure. She was born on September 23, 1927 in Johnstown. Daughter of Lloyd Sr. and Clara (Smay) Berkey. Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd Jr. Harry, and Jimmy; sister, Helene Roland, and granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Dostal. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, F. P. “Doc” Dostal Jr., Jackson Township. They were married July 23, 1949. Also, survived by these children, David, Christina (Terry) Rose, Barbara (Bob) Limric, Kathy (Joe) Ryan, Dennis (Darlene), Debbie (Bob) Buchan, Larry (Patti), Donald (Brenda), and Eric: siblings, Dorothy Fetzer, Virginia Jones, Becky (Zeke) Reed, and Bert Rock. Also, grandmother to 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, to whom she never forgot to send birthday cards, and several nieces, nephews and many good friends. She was fondly thought of by all that knew her and all the neighborhood kids called her Shirley Bird. Shirley was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #653 Ladies Auxiliary. She spent many years playing cards with her friends. Every week she enjoyed duck pin bowling, where she had perfect attendance. Shirley was a wiz at crossword puzzles and read at least 2 novels a week. She loved working in her flower garden, peppermint patties, and the family dog, Cleo. Shirley was a good cook and baker. She always looked forward to their annual Christmas Eve party, where everyone would gather at her home. Shirley’s family would like to thank Dr. Jean Marie Koh, who cared for her for many years, the 4th and 5th floor nursing staff at Good Sam ospitaHospital, the Home Nursing and Hospice Team from Conemaugh Hospital. Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, East Conemaugh, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a m. on Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Fr. Andrew Stanko, Pastor. Private committal will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
