Shirley M. Bennett

Bennett, Shirley M., 77, of Upper Yoder. Passed away on January 16, 2013 at Good Sam Palliative Care.  She was born on April 9, 1935, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Ernest and Magdalene (Hettle) Oaks. Also preceded in death by her sister, Connie L. Oaks; sister-in-law, Virginia Oaks and brothers in- law, Tom Woodward, James Townsend, Willard Russell Jones and Roy Bennett. She is survived by her loving husband, Earl S. Bennett; daughter, Cynthia M. wife of Charles Ickes Jr., Johnstown; grandchildren, Courtney M. Ickes, Masontown, PA and USMC LCPL Charles R. Ickes III, Afghanistan; brothers, Ernest L. Oaks, and Eugene H. married to the former Vivette Cook, all of Johnstown; sister, Nancy L. Woodward, Pittsburgh; sisters- in -law, Dorothy Jones, South Fork and Anna Townsend, Portage; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Johnstown High School. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown; and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, TV game shows, bingo, playing cards and loved spending time with her husband, daughter, grandchildren and family. Friends received from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David Peles, pastor.
