NIESSNER---Scott E., 63, Windber, it is with sadness we announce his unexpected passing on April 29, 2023 at home. Born November 19, 1959, in Johnstown, son of Edward L. and Patricia A. (Ingavo) Niessner. Preceded in death by father, Edward and fiancé, Marlene Teeter. Survived by mother, Pat, Richland; children, Scott E. Niessner Jr. (Jennifer), Windber; Troy Niessner (Ranelle), Windber; Mindy Niessner (Will), WV; Travis Niessner, Windber; Eddy Niessner, Moxham; Abby Niessner, Windber; Hailee Niessner, Windber; and Logan Niessner, Windber. Also survived by grandchildren, Chloe and Bella Niessner, Kyleigh and Troy Niessner Jr., Charisma Niessner and Alexavier O’Dell. Brother of Steven Niessner, Philadelphia; Vicki Hutchison (Gary), Richland; and Robert Niessner (Brenda), Oakland. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Scott was a 1978 graduate of Richland High School and then he immediately joined the US Navy as a Seabee where he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked as a construction electrician, He served in Operation Desert Storm and was honored afterward by attending a dinner with the President of the United States and many celebrities. He received the honor of Officer of the Year at his base. Toward the end of his military career, he became a Navy recruiter and then he retired after 21 years of active service. After his service, he went to work at Home Depot in the electrical department and just recently retired from there after working for the company for 20 years. Scott’s greatest joy above all else were his 8 children. He loved being a father and he loved them with all of his heart. Scott was extremely loyal to his family and friends and he was a loving son who took great care of his best friend, his mom, and he brought her food every day at 10:00 a.m. She looked forward to the visit every day! He was a loving brother and a great friend who always had your back when you needed him. He will be forever, greatly loved and missed! The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Saturday May 6, 2023 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with Pastor Robert L. Rummel officiating. Military rites by Menoher Post #155 VFW ritual team. Committal, St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Geistown. Cremation by Laurel Highlands Crematory at Harris Funeral Home.
