Vogel, Ronald, “Red”, 86, of Johnstown, went to his eternal home on Oct. 16, 2018. Born Dec. 14, 1931, in Johnstown. Son of the late Erhart and Rose Marie (Harlan) Vogel. Also preceded in death by loving wife of 62 years, Carole (Jefferies); brother, Cletus; and sister, Sr. Rose Marie Vogel, CSJ. Survived by children:  Michael married to Christine (Waligora) Germantown, MD; Brenda married to Dr. Rudolph Schilli, Bethesda, MD; John Vogel and Lindsay Patten Frederick, MD; caring sister, Norene Pozniak, State College, PA; step sister in law, Mary Kay Tacik. Ronald was a loving grandfather to Emily Vogel (26) and Grady Vogel (3).  Also step granchildren John, Stephanie, and Suzanne Schilli and step great grandchild, Juliette Schilli; and special friend, Cindy Nagy. Ron was a 1949 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High.  He was a veteran serving in the US Navy on the USS Harry E. Hubbard Destroyer.  He was employed as a machinist at Bethlehem Steel for 35 years.  Ronald was a lector at St. John Gualbert Cathedral and Mercy Hospital Good Samaritan Chapel.  He devoted 23 years Of Volunteer Service at the Information Desk at Mercy Hospital and also assisted in the Pastoral and Spiritual Care Office.

Ron continued his volunteer work at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for an additional 10 + years.  Ron coached Little League Baseball and St. John’s Parochial Championship Football Team (1959).  He enjoyed playing and watching sports and was an avid Notre Dame football fan.  Ronald enjoyed cruises and spending time on Hilton Head Island.  He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He touched many lives through his volunteer work.  He will forever be in the hearts of those who loved him. Friends received 4-7 PM Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil Service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Thursday at St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Committal at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum With miltary rites by Conemaugh Valley Detachment, Marine Corps League. Our family would like to express a very special thank you to the entire staff at Richland Woods.  Their exceptional care was loving, compassionate, and supportive and very much appreciated.  We would also like to express our thanks to Windber Hospice.  Family suggests donations to Windber Hospice in memory of Ronald.
