Poprich – Ronald G, “Pappy”, 70, East Conemaugh Borough, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2024. Born on May 3, 1953 in Johnstown, son of John and Hazel E. (Carl) Poprich. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sylvia J., “Sutzi” Poprich, son, Samuel Ronald; sister, Charlotte Townsend.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Stephanie J. (Robert) Johnson, East Conemaugh; grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Johnson both of East Conemaugh; brother, Ken Poprich, Rootstown, OH; sisters, Dorothy D. “Dot” Trexler, Johnstown and Sandy L. Ream, East Conemaugh; several nieces, nephews, including special niece, Angi (Jeff) Weir, East Taylor Township and his fur baby, Holly Noelle.
Ron was a 1971 graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School. He served during the Vietnam War in the US Army National Guard. Ron retired from Bethlehem Steel. He then drove the Book Mobile in Cambria County. Ron was assistant Chief and Past President for Franklin Borough Volunteer Fire Company, a member of Conemaugh and East Taylor Volunteer Fire Company, as well as a delegate at Cambria County Regional Fire Fighters Association.
He was a member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral. Ron will be sadly missed by everyone, especially with his sense of humor. He especially loved hunting and fishing with his family and being in the outdoors. Ron loved spending time with his grandsons and taking them to the fire house growing up. He loved the countless hours being a volunteer fireman, whether it being answering calls, working sub sales and gun raffles. Ron was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and was always willing to help others.
At Ron’s request, there will be no public viewing. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, 229-231 First Street, Conemaugh, with the Very Reverend Matthew Baum. Committal will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Franklin Volunteer Fire Company, 1125 Main Street, Johnstown, PA 15909 in memory of Ronald.
