Slack, Robert J., âJackâ, 88, of Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on February 12, 2014 at Windber Hospice. Born on November 10, 1925 in Johnstown, son of Harry I. and Helen I. (Cruickshank) Slack. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce E. (Luther) Slack and sister, Betty Swaney. Jack is survived by his loving children, Craig S. Slack Sr., Hooversville, PA, Cindy S. Slack, Richland Township, and Brenda J, wife of Fred Edwards, Upper Yoder Township; grandson, Craig S. Slack Jr., married to the former Megan Shoff, Red Lion, PA; great grandchildren, Jack D. and Josie E. Slack, both of Red Lion, PA; sister, Nancy J., wife of Donald W. Gregory, Lorain Borough and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend and care giver, Lindy Evans, who made it possible for him to stay at home until his final days. Jack was a graduate of Ferndale High School. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Jack was co-owner and operator of Schwartz Auto Parts, Johnstown, until he retired in 1987. After retirement he was employed by Cenwest Bank, where he was a courier for several years. He was a member of Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church. Jack enjoyed NASCAR racing, professional basketball, bird watching and Jazz music. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and was always joking with everyone. Friends will be received from 3-7 P.M. on Saturday and from 1 P.M. until time of service at 2 P.M. on Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Edward Wagner officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team at the funeral home. Private entombment will be at Richland Mausoleum.
