Robert John Kokoruda

Kokoruda – Robert John, “Bob”, 86, Richland Township, went to be with our Lord on November 12, 2017. Born on February 4, 1931 in Johnstown, son of Michael J. and Mary S. (Strippy) Kokoruda. Preceded in death by parents, and sisters, Mary L. Dlhosh, Patricia A. Kokoruda, and Dorothy M. Ruth. He is survived by his loving siblings, Barbara Jean (James) Mosimann, Gainesville, VA, and Joseph M., (Christine), Columbus, OH; Godchildren, Fr. John Paul Mosimann and Gloria (Szablinski) Day; brother-in-law, Richard Ruth, Geistown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Ferndale High School. Following high school, Bob spent a year working in Long Island, NY.  Later, Bob joined the U.S. Army, and served in Korea during the war.  In 1977, he served as a volunteer to clean up after the Johnstown Flood of that year, and in later years volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.  In 1996, accompanied by his brother Joe, Bob returned to Korea and visited the sites of his military service.  Bob had a good nature and quick wit and was a dedicated uncle.  An avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan, his nephews are grateful for his treating them to many games at the old Three Rivers Stadium.  Bob was a loving son and brother, a practicing and devout Catholic, and was inspired by the life and example of Saint John Paul The Great. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, Fr. John Paul Mosimann, Celebrant. Private burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Robert.
