Horten Sr. â Robert W., âBobâ, 93, Adams Township, passed away on November 18, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on January 3, 1921 in Johnstown, son of Robert J. and Anna G. (Burns) Horten. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald J.; sisters-in-law, Bernadette M. (Held) Horten and Florence M. Zips. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bertha D. (Zips) Horten; son, Robert W. Jr., married to the former B. Darlene Johnson, Adams Township; sister, Anna F., wife of Andrew K. Metro, Venice, FL; several nieces, nephews and a grand-dog, Pepper. Bob was a graduate of Westmont High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during WW II. serving in the Pacific from 1942 - 1945. Bob retired from Bethlehem Steel after 43 years of service as a craneman in Lower Cambria and Gautier Divisions. He was a past member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Johnstown and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Bob was a life time member of the Menoher Post #155 and Daisytown Sportsmanâs Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and benchrest target shooting. Bob participated in benchrest matches at South Fork Rifle Club, where he won numerous awards into his 90âs. He loved working around the house and yard, but especially loved spending time with his son. At Bobâs request there will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 609 Park Ave, Johnstown, PA 15902, Fr. Walter J. Moll Jr., Pastor. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team.
