Robert A. "Hub" Diefenbach

DIEFENBACH---Robert A. “Hub,” 94, Richland, went to be with the Lord on November 26, 2022 at Conemaugh Hospital. Born May 7, 1928, in Johnstown, son of Arthur and Agatha (Moehler) Diefenbach. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Shirl (Justinus) Diefenbach; infant son, Terry; brother, Barry and sister, Jean. He is survived by daughters, Sandy, married to Jim Lees, Johnstown; and Vicki, married to Dave White, Carroll, Ohio; grandchildren, Troy Lees, Pittsburgh; Travis (Kelli) Lees and future great-grandson, Pittsburgh; Lance (Hayley) White, Carroll, Ohio and Bridgett White, Columbus, Ohio; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hub was a 1946 graduate of Dale High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He then enlisted in the US Navy as a Seaman. He was employed at GTE for 39 years and was a supervisor in the engineering/construction department. He was a coach for the Dodgers baseball team at the Arbutus Park for many years. Hub was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge BPOE #175 and was their oldest surviving member. He was one of the founders and a member of the GTE retired men’s golf league. He always enjoyed golfing, going to his grandchildren’s athletic events, summer beach vacations with family and winter trips to Florida with his wife for 18 years. Hub will miss his breakfasts at the Corner Coffee Shop with Ron. He was the fun loving Dad who always said “yes” to his girls when Mom said no. A special Thank You to his caregivers: Mary Ann, Shelly and Bev who became part of our family. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral Mass will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Geistown, with David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal, Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Menoher Post #155 VFW ritual team. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal and love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Online condolences may be posted at www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
