HINTERLITER---Richard R. Sr., 95, of East Taylor Twp., passed away October 2, 2022 at The Atrium, Johnstown. Born December 16, 1926 in Johnstown, son of Charles E. and Amanda M. (Holtz) Hinterliter. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ida M. (Harr); sons, Gary L. and Richard R. Jr.; infant brother, Elias F. Hinterliter and great-grandson, Tanner Hinterliter. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy L. wife of Anthony Salony, Windber; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and by special friend and dance partner, Agnes Hall, Conemaugh. Richard was a US Army veteran of WWII, having served in the South Pacific with the 622nd Ordnance AMM Company in Nagoya Honshu, Japan; and also as a Sergeant in the Philippines with Company D 50th M.P. Bn, Ryukyus Command. He later served during the Korean Conflict in Fort Eustis, VA as a railcar instructor. Richard was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal. He retired from US Steel after 32 years of service as a Millwright in the Number 2 Foundry. Richard loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandsons. At Richard’s request there will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Richland Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Menoher VFW Post #155 Ritual Team. Richard suggested that memorial donations be made to the Cambria County Humane Society in his memory.
