Gerber – Richard E., 80, Dale Borough went to be with the Lord, after a long courageous battle with cancer, on November 29, 2015 at Windber Hospice. Born on October 20, 1935 in Johnstown, son of Vincent Gerber and Anne (Sepatka) Tierney. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne E. (Penna) Gerber; daughter, Sherrie M. Gerber; brother, Gary and a sister, Shirley Wiltrout. He is survived by his loving daughters, Robbin M., wife of Robert Lucas, Richland Township and Nyenna, wife of Don Shaffer, Moxham; granddaughter, Kellie, wife of Mark Burgan, Ferndale; sister, Barbara, wife of Ron Kmett, Dale Borough; brother, Don, married to the former Margaret Candler, Princeton, WV and several nieces and nephews. Richard was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Marine Veteran. Richard retired from Hiram G. Andrews after 28 years of service as a Printing Instructor. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Richard enjoyed playing BINGO, playing poker, chess and hunting. He loved his family above all and making a difference in people’s lives thru his work and personal friendships. At Richard’s request there will be no public viewing. Family and friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Inurnment will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Richard. On line condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com.
