The Rev. Dr. Jack M. Long, pastor, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, in Spring Hill, FL. He will be remembered as a steadfast and passionate servant of God, a faithful and devoted husband, and a revered and cherished father and grandfather. Rev. Long was born in 1951 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Harry Long, Sr., and the former Mary Jane Thomas. He met his future wife, Glenda Rose Hargis of Terre Haute, IN, while a college freshman in Chattanooga, TN. They were married in 1974, their union lasting until his death after 44 years together. The marriage produced two sons, Adam and Seth, and a grandson, Henry. While in college Jack worked as an Athletic Director for the local Salvation Army. After graduating, he returned to his hometown to be the Associate Pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church. In 1977, Rev. Long was called to Dilltown, PA, where he led the congregation of Memorial Baptist Church for 21 years. Rev. Long relocated to Florida in 1998, where he continued to preach and work in Christian radio. In 2002 he also became the pastor of the Holiday Mission in Leesburg, FL, and was active in several local religious organizations, roles he maintained until his passing. In 2004, he was offered the position of Chaplain and Director of Pastoral Care for the Regional Medical Center. Rev. Long was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather Robert Horner, and by three brothers, Harry Long, Jr., Rev. Charles Long, and Rev. Wayne Arthur Long. He is survived by his wife, sons, grandson, brothers Rev. Richard Long and Rev. Dr. Stephen Long, Uncle Dean, three step-siblings, and daughter-in-law. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Emmanuel Church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to Emmanuel Church, 425 Luther Rd., Johnstown, PA 15904 or to the Del Teagan Memorial Foundation Fund, Attn: Major Roger Young, 3900 Drane Field Rd., Lakeland, FL 33811.
