Conway, Raymond F., âRay," 78, of East Taylor Township, passed away on December 14, 2011 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born on February 21, 1933 in Gallitzin, PA son of the late Oscar and Matilda "Tillie" (Cox) Conway. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings: Dell, Grace Howell, Rita Gates, Robert, Leo, Clair, James, and Roy. Survived by loving wife of 52 years, Harriet E. (Penrod) Conway; children, Lawrence âLarryâ R. married to the former Karen Hoffman, Latrobe, PA, Myron R., East Taylor Township, and Christine R., wife of James Grubbs, Burlington, KY; grandchildren, Amanda Jo and Matthew Ryan Conway both of Latrobe, PA; brother, Clyde, married to Cleo, Bradenton, FL and numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Ray was a 1952 graduate of Gallitzin High School and later matriculated from Saint Francis College. He was also a US Army Veteran. Ray retired in 1993 after 34 years of service at Bishop Carroll and Windber Area High Schools, where he was employed as an English teacher. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration and attended Saint John Vianney Catholic Church. Ray enjoyed boating at Raystown Lake, going to the beach at Wildwood Crest, NJ and attending Saint Francis University men's and women's basketball games. He especially loved coaching high school football and helped to start the program at Bishop Carroll. Ray always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Sunday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, Father Andrew C. Stanko celebrant. Committal will be at the Wesley Chapel Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family requests that donations be made in Ray's name to the American Red Cross, John P. Murtha Regional Cancer Center, or the Palliative Care Unit of Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
