Yanko – Peter, 90, of East Taylor Township, went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on June 7, 1925 in Franklin Borough, son of George and Helen (Masich) Yanko. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, Steve, George, John, and Michael; sisters, Mary Michnya and Anna Boryk. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Irene E. (Solomon) Yanko; children, Peter T., married to the former Sharon Mastervich, Johnstown, Beverly I. Poole, Johnstown, Linda L., wife of Michael Calpin, East Taylor Township, Maryann J. Yanko, East Taylor Township, Audrey I. Yanko, Irving, TX, George S., married to the former Anna Amenti, East Taylor Township, and Thomas F. Yanko, East Taylor Township; grandchildren, Mary Kay (Shaun) Persing, Charlotte, NC, Diane (Scott) Wentz, East Taylor Township, Jennifer L. Yanko, Charlotte, NC, Gregory P. Yanko, and fiancée, Megan Hartley, Jacksonville, FL., Erica (Patrick) Callahan, Pittsburgh, Lisa (Neil) Leckey, East Taylor Township, Michael (Celena) Calpin, East Taylor Township, Melanie Calpin, Chicago, IL, Jayme (Josh) Migyanka, East Taylor Township, Carley Yanko, Pittsburgh, Jeremy Yanko, East Conemaugh, Abbi Yanko, East Taylor Township, and Emily Lowery, East Conemaugh; great grandchildren, Dylan and Hayley Wentz, Sabrina Mitchell, Brody Persing, Grace Bond, Charlotte Callahan, Jayden and Summer Leckey, Amelia and Shane Calpin; sisters, Helen Woolf, East Conemaugh and Betty Fetcik, Franklin Borough; sister-in-law, Gail Yanko, Conemaugh Township Cambria County and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was a US Army Veteran serving during WWII, participating in D-Day, landing on Utah Beach. He served in the European Campaign assigned to the 17th Signal Corps covering most of Europe. Peter was the last surviving brother of Yanko Brothers Trucking. The brothers started the company over 70 years ago. It was his love for his trucks that kept the company going. Peter was past Commander and life member of Park Hill American Legion Post #970 as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1811, Conemaugh, SGT. Michael Strank, Post #5107 V.F.W., and many other social organizations. He was an avid Steeler and Pirate fan, and loved to travel with his wife and children. Besides spending time with his entire family, he loved tinkering in his garage and going to casinos. Peter was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, where he served as an usher. Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Church of the Transfiguration, Fr. Robert C. Hall. Committal will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests contributions be directed to Proclaim TV Ministry, P.O.
