McCLEESTER—Percy A. Jr., 94, Johnstown, passed away on September 20, 2023. Born on May 31, 1929, in Johnstown, son of Percy A. Sr. and Agnes (Schellhammer) McCleester. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 45 years, Ella Jane (Haer) McCleester, who died Nov. 6, 1993; Step-mother, Helen Phenicie, grandson, Aaron and great-great grandson Bennett; and sisters, Vera Mae (Jakie) Gaylor, Anna Marie McCleester. Survived by children, Percy A. III, Terry, Mark (late JoAnne Makin), Pamela (late Jake Schmadel), Ronald (JoAnn Motak), Linda (Larry Calhoun), James (Michelle Rummel) and Barbara (Raymond Heptner Jr.); 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Brother of Glenn McCleester (Barb Wilson). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Percy was retired with 35 years of service as a crane operator from Bethlehem Steel Gautier Division. Owner of McCleester & Son’s Tree Service. He built his backyard sanctuary with a swimming pool and pavilions. He enjoyed hosting many family reunions, weddings and picnics. Percy also enjoyed hunting and fishing at home and abroad. He was loved by many as he loved everyone he met. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where service will be held that evening at 7 p.m., with Pastor Roland Maust. Friends also received from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of prayer service at 10 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home. Entombment, Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
