Paul J. Hughes

Hughes – Paul J., of East Conemaugh Borough, went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on October 24, 1944 in Johnstown, son of H. Leslie and Mary C. (Waligora) Hughes. Preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, John C. Custer and brother-in-law, John Welshko. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane L. (Custer) Hughes, East Conemaugh; sister, Alice Welshko, Tempe, AZ; brothers, Harry L., married to the former Peggy Berkhimer, Vinco, and Thomas, married to the former Marsha Pingatore, Cary, NC; mother-in-law, Dora E. (Hildebrand) Custer, East Conemaugh; sister-in-law, Cindy L., wife of Ray Slaventa, Franklin Borough; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephew, J.R. Slaventa, married to the former Amanda Jones, Richland Township, and special niece and Godchild, Marisa Slaventa, and her fiancé, Bobby Huff, both of Morgantown, WV; great nephew, Dylan Slaventa; fur babies, Cali and Coli and many friends. Paul was a 1962 graduate of East Conemaugh High School. He was a US Airforce Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Paul was employed as a Roll Turner at Bethlehem Steel, J. Pitt Steel and later retired from Gautier Steel. He was a former Elder at the former Conemaugh Presbyterian Church. Paul was a member of the East Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Company; Conemaugh Aerie #1811, F.O.E., Parkhill American Legion Post #970, and Chairman of the East Conemaugh Alumni Reunion Committee. He enjoyed golfing at North Fork Country Club and watching sports on TV. Paul loved model trains and collecting fire trucks. At Paul’s request there will be no public viewing. Private service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Armagh Cemetery, Indiana County. The family is being served by the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh. The family suggests contributions be directed to Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Company, 343 First Street, Conemaugh PA 15909 in memory of Paul.
