Flanagan Sr. – Patrick, 79, East Conemaugh, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2016 at his residence. Born on October 29, 1936 in Nanty Glo, son of George and Mary F. (Leith) Flanagan. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Lily Swartz; brother, James, and sister-in-law, Marie (Barosky) Flanagan. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary M. (Briggs) Flanagan, East Conemaugh; children, Christy Starr-Flanagan, NY, Patrick Jr., East Conemaugh, Timothy D., married to the former Anita M. Rheel, Johnstown, Margaret E. “Margie”, and her special friend, Danny Woods, both of Franklin TN, and Jason E., East Conemaugh; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Mitchell Starr, and Martina Flanagan; great grandson, Caleb Starr; brother-in-law, Ralph Swartz, Millville, NJ; several nephews, nieces, including special niece, Cheryl Yernaux and her children, Danielle and Ricky and many friends. Patrick was a 1954 graduate of Nanty Glo High School. He was a US Marine Veteran serving 4 tours during the Vietnam War as Gunnery SGT. Patrick retired from the US Marine Corps. in 1975 after 21 years of service. He also served during the Cuban Missile Crisis in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Patrick led the Honor Guard firing howitzers at President Eisenhower’s funeral. After retiring from the Marines, he later retired from Karl’s Beauty Supply, where he was a shipping and receiving manager. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh sports teams, but mostly relaxing on his back porch playing on his Kindle and talking to his neighbors. Patrick was king of 1 liners. His family would like to thank everyone who assisted Patrick, especially AseraCare Hospice and Dionne and Lacy. Friends will be received from noon until time of service at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, with the Rev. Keith H. Lohr officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral chapel by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. Private inurnment will be at Headrick Union Cemetery.
