Chirico, Nicholas N., âNickâ, 82, of Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on October 19, 2013. He was born on October 5, 1931 in Hazelton, PA, son of John and Theresa (Ferraro) Chirico. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Shirley M. (Baldwin) Chirico; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The passing of Nick and his late wife Shirley, ends 53 years of earthly love. He is survived by his loving daughter, Carolyn A., wife of Craig M. Saylor, Hollsopple, PA and grandchildren, Anthony, Katie, and Nicholas. Nick is also survived by these siblings, whom he was extremely close with, Anthony (Eleanor) Chirico, Philadelphia and Sylvia Porpiglia, Hazelton, PA, and also many nieces and nephews. Nick was a graduate of Wilkes College. He served with the US Coast Guard during the Korean War. Nick was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church; B.P.O.E. Lodge #175, Johnstown. He retired in 1990 from Ciba-Geigy, where he was employed as a Pharmaceutical Representative. Nick enjoyed drinking coffee and socializing with his friends at McDonalds. He loved spending time with his entire family and close neighbors, especially his daughter and 3 grandchildren. Many memories were made in Hawaii during annual winter vacations in later years with his late wife Shirley, who preceded him in death 4 months ago. Summer vacations were often spent in the western United States with his wife and daughter, Carolyn, spending time with family while fishing and hiking in the mountains of Idaho. At Nicholasâs request there will be no public viewing. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Fr. David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Contributions may be directed to a charity of oneâs choice in memory of Nicholas.
