Barker, Ned Harry, 89, of Richland Township, passed away on January 29, 2011 at Arbutus Park Manor. He was born on June 19, 1921 in Johnstown. Son of the late George and Lillian (Hochstein) Barker. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, William âBillâ and sisters-in-law, Doris Barker (wife of William) and Emma Barker (wife of Don). Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Rhea M. (Gindlesperger) Barker, Richland Township; son, David married to the former Joan Pekala, Richland Township; daughter, Linda wife of Wayne Krause, Richland Township. Ned was blessed with three grandsons, Adam Krause, Michael and wife Amy Krause all of Reading, PA, and Travis Barker, Pittsburgh, PA, Ned is also survived by brothers, Don, Virginia Beach, VA and Clair husband of Florence, Richland Township and numerous nieces and nephews. Ned was a 1942 graduate of Richland High School, where he was a member of their first football team. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He retired from the former GTE after 33 years, where he was employed as an installer/repairman. Ned was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hornerstown. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, but most of all he was a loving husband, wonderful father and a fun and loving grandfather. Ned will be dearly missed. Friends received from 3-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and also from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Custead officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Conemaugh Valley Marine Corps. League Detachment #287.
