Saula – Milan, “Mitch”, 90, Franklin Borough, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2019. He was born June 8, 1929 in Johnstown. Son of Lazo and Stella (Hrkman) Saula. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 54 years, Helen A. “Cookie” (Gjurich) Saula; infant son, Michael; sister, Natalie Lightbody; brothers-in-law, Bill Kelly and Dr. Forest “Pete” Lightbody, and in-laws, Dorothy, Betty, Zora, Milan, and Blaine. Survived by loving sons, Milan (Terry), Frederick, MD and Mitchell (Lisa), Columbia, MD; grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah “Sadie”; sister, Mary Kelly; brother, Nick (Emma) Saula; brother-in-law, Sylvester “Petty” Gjurich; numerous loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews in the US and Serbia, as well as many friends. Mitch was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a graduate of IUP and then began a 36 year teaching career at Portage High School. Mitch was a devoted life member of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church and served on the Executive Board for many years and past President of the Men’s Club that was instrumental in food preparation for the church. He also served as a School Director for Conemaugh Valley School District and Tax Collector for Franklin Borough. Mitch was a proud life long resident of Franklin Borough, who enjoyed traveling, cooking, conversation and coffee. He will be greatly missed by friends and family, especially his grandchildren, Ben and Sadie, who were the joys of his life. Friends received 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where Pomen will be held at 7 P.M. A short service will be held at 9:15 A.M. on Friday at the funeral chapel, followed by funeral service at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. with the Very Rev. Fr. Milan Dragovic officiating. Committal will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church, Bell Tower Fund, 971 St. Clair Road, Johnstown, PA 15905 in memory of Mitch.
