SMEED—Michael T. “Mike,” 68, Vinco, went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2022 at Windber Hospice. Born November 29, 1953, in Johnstown, son of John J. and Elizabeth (Gordon) Smeed. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Ruth Dixon and nephew, John David Smeed II. Survived by wife of 43 years, Linda (Metzger) Smeed; daughters, Mickey Meyers (Travis), Wyoming; Becky Smeed, Riverside; grandchildren, Oliver, Kya and Eleanor Meyers. Brother of John Smeed (Susan), Vinco and Linda Miller, Vinco. Also survived by brother-in-law, Dave Dixon, Vinco; numerous nieces and nephews; his son-in-law, Travis who was more like the son he never had, and his best buddy Pepper our little dachshund. Mike was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He worked for 35 years as an automotive technician at Suppes Ford, where he took his honorary son, Nick Shaffer under his wing. He was a certified Senior Master mechanic for the Ford Motor Company. Mike loved to hunt and golf and was a NASCAR fan. In his younger years, he was a stock car driver on local tracks. While in Germany, he was involved in drag racing. Mike was a devoted husband, father, Pappy, uncle and friend. He would do anything for anyone, especially when it came to their cars. Mike loved wearing Hawaiian shirts and guests are welcome to wear them.The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, 229-231 First St., Conemaugh. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Vinco Brethren Church, with Pastor Zack Yonko and Pastor Joe Brown officiating. Military rites by Menoher VFW, Post #155. Mike’s family would like to thank Windber Hospice for their kindness and comfort they provided. Extra special thanks to Katie, Marie, Abbi, Dr. Kelly and Shannon (niece).
