Melvin R. "Mel" Kniss Sr.

KNISS---Melvin R. “Mel,” 89, Richland, passed away on June 17, 2024. Born February 23, 1935 in Jackson Twp., son of Ralph and Laura (Rummel) Kniss. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Robert and William, sister, Rosella Clites and son-in-law, Walter Gleason. Mel was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by wife of 68 years, Donna R. (Wingard), children, Melvin R. Jr. (Beth), Donald (Kim), Patricia (Kenneth) Marcus, Karen (Cris) Brandle and Linda Gleason; also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mel was a Specialist Fifth Class, 103rd Armored Division of the Army National Guard. He was employed at US Steel Corp., Emglo and Verhovsic Landscaping. Mel enjoyed spending time with family, camping and boating at Glendale Yearound and listening to country music. At Mel’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Cremation by Laurel Highlands Crematory at Harris Funeral Home.
