Bier, Martha Belle, âPattyâ, âPatâ, 79, of Mine 37, Windber, died at home on June 13, 2012, under the care of her daughter, Berniece with her children and grandchildren surrounding. She was born on May 5, 1933 in Hollidaysburg, PA. Daughter of Fred and Bessie (Butler) Dively. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Homer, Clifford, Eldon, Fred and Merrow; sisters, Lilly, Betty and Bertha. Patty was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is also preceded in death by long time companions, Bernard M. Gramling and Patrick L. Eckenrode. She is survived by her loving children, Matthew E., married to the former Connie M. Griggs, Oklahoma City, OK, David C., married to the former Nancy L. Helmick, Bedford, PA, Martha E. Bier, Mine 37, Windber, PA and Berniece A., wife of Paul J. Manahan, Mine 37, Windber, PA; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, including special nephew, Ellsworth Dively, married to the former Linda nee Darkis, Pimento, IN. Patty attended Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, PA. She was a member of Conemaugh-Franklin American Legion Post #633, where she held many offices and earned many achievements. Patty volunteered often to cook and serve the veterans and was very proud to hold the office of Poppy Chairperson and accomplished top poppy sales several years in a row. She was a member of the Conemaugh Carpatho-Citizens Club and the Conemaugh PNA. Patty was also a member of the Conemaugh Fraternal Order of Eagles #1811; Nanty Glo American Legion Post #619 and the Nanty Glo VFW Post #3489. She enjoyed many years of actively following rattlesnake hunts. Patty will be remembered as a caring mother and friend, who could talk to anyone. Friends will be received from 11 A.M. until time of service at 1 P.M. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. John H. Snyder officiating.
