Smith, Marjorie S., 68, of Westmont died unexpectedly Oct. 19, 2013, in Washington Twp., Franklin County, PA, while returning from her grandson's football game. Marjorie was born June 27, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI where she lived - along with her large extended family - for 22 years. She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Ida (Pinkster) Schippers and sister of Mary Louise (Paul) Frederick of Portage, MI. Marjorie studied education at Taylor University and received a Masters degree in Reading from IUP. She was a lifelong educator and recently retired from Conemaugh Valley School District. After retirement she remained active in education as a volunteer tutor. Outside of education, Marjorie was an involved member of Westmont Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and participated in the quilting ministry. Most of all, Marjorie will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit and will be especially missed by her fellow "muffins." Marjorie is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Gordon D. Smith, whom she met at Taylor University, her two loving daughters Courtney (Tres) Kelly, of Emmitsburg, MD and Stacey (Robert) Basso, of San Francisco, CA and five adoring grandchildren Grant, Allison, Lauren and Alayna Kelly and Julia Basso. Friends will be received from 3-7pm this Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. The funeral service will be held at 4pm on Sunday at Westmont Presbyterian Church, Rev. Cynthia Cadenhead and Rev. Dr. Douglas Stevens co-officiating. Private entombment will be at Grandview Cemetery on Monday. The family suggests donation be made to the charity of the giver's choice or to Westmont Presbyterian Church Prayers and Squares Ministry or Deacons' Ministry, 601 Luzerne Street, Johnstown, PA 15905 in memory of Marjorie.
