Margaretta Belle Johnson

September 20, 1937 — September 19, 2011

Johnson, Margaretta Belle “Marge”, 73, New Castle, Delaware died September 19, 2011 at her beautiful home on the Delaware River. Born in Cramer, PA. September 20, 1937. Daughter of the late David H. and Nellie (Naugle) Stinson. Also preceded in death by parents; brother, David and infant sister, Velma Catherine. Survived by loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Alonzo J. Johnson; along with these children and siblings; son Alan, and fiancé Melissa Adamy of Johnstown; daughter Lucinda Williams-Nowak and husband Richard of New Castle, Delaware; daughter Lori Ditto and husband Brian of Reisterstown, Maryland; son Ryan and wife Lauren of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania; sister Mary Anna Watkins of Cramer and brother Lanny Stinson and wife Mary Frances, also of Cramer. She is also survived by nine adoring grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews-many of whom thought of her as a second mom. She was a 1956 graduate of United High School and a dedicated officer of her graduating class, having organized many class reunions and other class gatherings during her life. She was a lifelong resident of Johnstown and moved to Delaware in 2009 for ongoing medical treatment. She was the treasurer of Stonycreek Township (Cambria County) for many years and was active as a Republican Committeewoman at the local and state levels for much of her life. She was named Republican Committeeperson of the Year in 1976. She was a long time member of the Johnstown Choraleers and was also active as a member of the East Hills Kiwanis Club. A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, she enjoyed playing the piano, having been pianist at Cramer United Methodist Church in her youth. She especially loved her home community of Oakland and participated in many service projects there. Earlier in her life she had been active in PTA groups at the former Oakland and Roxbury Elementary Schools. She enjoyed baking, decorating and, most of all, her family. She will be remembered always by her family and everyone who knew her as dedicated above all else to the happiness of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her passing leaves a great emptiness in many hearts. Special thanks go out from her family to Dr. Timothy Wozniak and the doctors and nurses at the Helen Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital in Christiana, Delaware and also to the nurses and staff of the Compassionate Care Hospice in Wilmington, Delaware. Friends received 3-7 P.M. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, Johnstown, PA. 15904, where funeral service will be held at 9 A.M. on Friday, with the Dr. James E. Devorick officiating. Interment will be at the Richland Cemetery. The family requests that you consider making a donation in Marge’s memory to:  Christiana Care-Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713 or The Lucinda Williams Fund, c/o Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 W. 10th St., Ste 1103, Wilmington, DE 19801.
