Margaret "Peg" Deitke

June 26, 1933 — January 27, 2020

Deitke – Margaret, “Peg,” 86, Bon Air, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2020 at Conemaugh Hospital. Born on June 26, 1933 in Johnstown, daughter of John and Mary (Mitrik) Dernar. Preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Michael and John. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Thomas L. Deitke; son, Kevin L. (Karen), Windber; daughter, Mary Beth Deitke, Bon Air; grandchildren, Sabrina M. Deitke (Paul Cameron) and Harland J. Deitke, both of Johnstown, David A. (Samantha) Rykala, Latrobe, Scott A. Rykala, Johnstown; step-grandchildren, Nicole (John) Killian, Johnstown, and Daniel (Melissa) Dovala, Bedford; great-granddaughters, Rachael Cameron, Annaleigh and Harleigh Deitke, and step great-granddaughter, Emily Killian; great-grandson, Anderson David Rykala; sister, Anna Mae “Toots” Percinsky, Johnstown; brothers, Robert (Yvonne) Dernar, Vinco, and Richard (Carol) Dernar, Harrisburg, and numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Peg was a 1951 graduate of Franklin High School. She was employed in the Advertising/Receiving Department at the former Penn Traffic Department Store. Peg’s family was her pride and joy and if you were a friend you were her family.  She was always ready to lend a helping hand being a Girl Scout leader, being a band booster making subs and later helping the Franklin Fire Company making subs. Quiet times were crafting, reading and of course her beloved Hallmark channel. Peg’s faith in the Lord was strong as she was a devoted member of Ss. Gregory and Barnabas parish. You could always find her at the Church making Pierogis, nut rolls, helping with fish fries or decorating for the holidays, but her love for music made her the happiest singing in the church choir. She loved to sing. Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, 229-231 First Street, Conemaugh, where Vigil Service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2020 at Ss. Gregory and Barnabas Chapel, Bon Air, Fr. Robert Ruston, Pastor. Committal, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions be directed to Ss. Gregory and Barnabas Parish in memory of Peg. The family wishes to thank CVRAA, Conemaugh Hospital’s E.R. Department, the valets at Good Sam, the staff at Good Sam 4 and AsceraCare Hospice for the loving care they gave Peg and showed to us. We would especially like to thank Dr. Stephen Matse for all of his help over the past 4 years with Peg’s care. Online condolences may be posted to www.wharrisfuneralhome.com. “Always remember he who sings prays twice."
