Loretta H. Cummins

Cummins, Loretta H., 101, Richland Township, died on January 16, 2017 at Windber Hospice. Born on May 21, 1915 in Greensburg, daughter of the late James W. and the late Mary (Cleary) Kiley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. Cummins. She is survived by her loving daughter, Charlene Cummins Azar (David), Richland Township; son, Thomas J., (Sukyong) Cummins, Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Benjamin D. Azar; Samuel A. Cummins, Timothy A. (Sonia) Cummins, Joshua B. Cummins; great grandchildren, Carlos and Kiley Cummins, and many nieces and nephews. Loretta graduated in 1940 from St. Francis School of Nursing, enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving as a Flight Nurse during WWII. Post war, she continued her nursing career as elementary school nurse for the Richland School District and St. Benedict’s School. In later years, Loretta worked in rehab nursing locally and in California until her retirement, always finding the way to put family first throughout her dedicated career. She and her husband, Frank partnered through 71 years together until their union’s end just 42 days apart. Loretta lived many lives within one, and in each she used her countless gifts; the common thread in all was her grace. At Loretta's request, there will be no public viewing or service. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
