RUSSELL—Leonard J., 82, Richland, passed away December 21, 2023. Born January 19, 1941, in Cairnbrook, son of John and Annette (Shelko) Russell. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Barbara Jean (Slovensky) Russell; and brother, Robert Russell. Survived by daughters, Connie Grunza, Davidsville and Renee Stephens, Johnstown; grandson, Russell Grunza, Davidsville. Brother of Sylvester Russell, Cairnbrook and Patricia Dively (Jerry), Harrisburg; also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and best friend, Bill McTonic (Dolly), Central City. 1958 graduate of Shade High School. US Army veteran having served for 3 years. He saw service in France and was a member of the Airborne Division. Lenny worked as a policeman in the State of Ohio for 11 years. He also worked as a coal miner at the Reitz #2 coal mine. He was a member of the Stoystown American Legion #257, Polish Falcons Nest #97 and St. John the Baptist Society, Central City. Lenny was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and loved to bowl. He loved to spoil his grandson, Russell. At Lenny's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Richland Cemetery. Military graveside rites by the Menoher VFW, Post #155 ritual team. The family is being served by Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland.
