McCloskey â Lawrence A., âLarryâ, 90, Richland Woods, Johnstown, formerly of Tire Hill, passed away on November 28, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on August 28, 1924 in Onnalinda, PA, son of the late Lawrence and Zofia (Slowik) McCloskey. He is survived by his loving wife of 35years, Nancy (Bollington) Howard McCloskey; daughters, Carol Partsch, Sharon Beckel and Debbie Howard; sons, Jody and Jon Howard. Also survived by 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; loving pet, Figaro; special sister-in-law, Irene McCloskey and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife Dorothy (Washic) McCloskey; son, William Howard; sons-in-law, Robert Beckel and Richard Partsch; grandson, Jason Howard and brother-in-law John âJackâ Bollington. Preceded in death by 12 siblings and he was the last surviving member of his family. Larry was a decorated Veteran serving during WWII, and he was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a founding member of Saint Andrews Catholic Church, where he was an usher, and Beaverdale American Legion Post #460. Larry was a great baseball player and enjoyed watching the Pirates. He was an avid gardener and a great dancer. Larry and Nancy loved to polka together and sit on their back porch. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Saint Andrews Catholic Church, Fr. Andrew Patti, Pastor. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery with military rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Saint Andrews Food Pantry, 1621 Ferndale Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15905 in memory of Lawrence.
