Kessler – Laverne M., 93, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2023 at Siemens Lakeview Manor, Somerset, PA. Born on August 11, 1929 in Kegg, PA, daughter of Clarence Jacob and Lydia Viola (Hillegass) Mowry. Preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, William D. Walker; 2nd husband, Edward Kessler; son, Curtis Walker, and brother, Carl Mowry.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Colleen F. Walker, Johnstown; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Walker, Winchester, VA; step sons, Larry (Kathy) Kessler, Wayne (Marlene) Kessler, and Terry (Kelly) Kessler, all of Johnstown, and several nieces and nephews.
Laverne walked 2 miles with her brother to attend a 1 room school house. She was a long time active member of Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, where she loved sharing celebrations and helping in the kitchen. Laverne was a former employee at the former Tru Form Sewing Factory in Windber, and also at Best Form at the clover leaf in Johnstown.
She enjoyed spending weekends in New Baltimore with her family. She also enjoyed playing pinochle, dominos, car races, ceramics, and going to Florida. Laverne had a great love of life and always liked to join the party or celebration.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Carol H. Hickman officiating.
