Halza- Laverne M., “Vernie”, 85, of Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Born on December 12, 1930 in New Baltimore, PA, daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Schuller) Hankinson. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stephen J. Halza and brothers, Robert and Raymond. She is survived by her loving children, Sandra, wife of David Burnheimer, Johnstown, Barbara, wife of Donald P. Shovestull, Johnstown, Veronica, wife of Jeffery Dunn, Erie, PA, Stephen, married to the former Jean Greguric, North Huntingdon, PA, Patricia, wife of Joel Greguric, Pittsburgh, PA, Joseph, married to the former Tracy Knipple, York, PA, and Thomas, Johnstown, who took especially loving care of our Mother in her last years; grandchildren, Donald C., Michelle, Katherine, Andrew, Ryan, Alexander, Erin, Hope, Alivia, Tabytha, and Victoria; great grandsons, Jayden, and a baby brother on the way. Laverne was a 1948 graduate of the former Johnstown Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Laverne enjoyed playing Pinochle, crossword puzzles, Words with Friends, playing BINGO and watching the Steelers and Pirates. She was strong natured, but always had a kind word for everyone. Laverne loved her entire family, but especially her grandchildren. At Laverne’s request, there will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23rd, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Johnstown, Fr. Walter J. Moll, Jr., Pastor. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Geistown. The family suggests contributions be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 609 Park Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15902 in memory of Laverne.
