HARRIGER, Kathleen M. It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we say goodbye to Kathleen Marie Harriger, known as Kay to her many friends and loved ones. Kay was the daughter of Bernard and Wilhelmina Schwing. Born on May 3, 1934, in Johnstown, PA, Kay graduated from Johnstown High School and received her RN from Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She embraced life with the same enthusiasm, tenacity, and humor that characterized her upbringing. After 90 remarkable years, she peacefully left this world while in Chambersburg, Pa at MennoHaven on October 30, 2024, leaving a legacy of kindness, talent, and joy. Known for her love of singing, Kay's voice enchanted many as she headlined for bands, graced weddings, the Johnstown Symphony Chorus and uplifted the spirits of congregations through choirs in her beloved Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was a mainstay not only in song but also in service on the Altar Guild. Her community presence extended beyond the church as a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and an enthusiastic supporter of the Richland High School Music programs. Kay’s melodies were mirrored by the harmonies she found in nature – from the delicate dance of the butterflies to the vibrant blooms in her gardens. Kay’s green thumb was nothing short of magical. Her sense of humor and passionate soul made Kay a beloved friend and an inspiration to her family. Kay was preceded in death by parents and husband Clyde. She is survived by her sister, Gretchen Schaefer, brother, Bernard Schwing, and her children Kathleen (Ron) Likar, Kevin (Carol), David (Susan), and Dana (Ginny) Harriger, all of whom carry forward her tenacity for life. Kay was blessed with 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren. Join our family in celebrating Kay’s life at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 5th, at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Johnstown, PA 15904 where service will be held at 1:00pm. Reverend Scott Bowerman officiating. Entombment at Richland Cemetery Mausoleum. As we honor Kay’s memory, let’s remember how her 'never-quit' approach and zest for life inspired us to marvel at the world with a child-like appreciation and encouraged us always to do our best.
