Joseph G. Slifko

Slifko, Joseph G. Sr., 79, of Richland Township. Died Aug. 28, 2014, at home. Born Jan. 29, 1935, in Beaverdale. Son of the late Stephen and Helen (Puchan) Slifko. Also preceded in death by son, Richard L. Slifko. Survived by wife of 50 years, Judith E. (Wetzel); Children; Joseph Jr. (Laura) Slifko, Johnstown; Stephen J. (Kim) Slifko, Beaverdale; and Matthew D. Slifko, Blacksburg, VA. Brother of Elizabeth (Dean) Cameron, Salix. Grandchildren, Cecilia, Richard “RJ”, Treigh, and Ian Slifko; and daughter-in-law, Trisha Christopher, Bellefonte, PA. Graduate of Beaverdale High School and St. Francis College. Served in the PA National Guard. Retired Math Teacher from Shade High School and also taught at Cambria County Area Community College. Member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Windber. Joe was an avid sports fan, especially Philadelphia teams and formerly coached baseball and golf at Shade High School. Friends received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Monday. Msgr. Raymond Balta, officiating.
