Huber, Joseph H., âJoeâ, 84, of Richland Township, passed away on January 15, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 29, 1927, in Tire Hill, PA. Son of Wolfgang, Jr. and Stephania (Lutzenberger) Huber. Preceded in death by parents, wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Naylor) Huber and brother, Wolfe Huber III. Survived by children, Mary Jo, wife of Richard Laslo, Houston, PA, Jeffrey (wife Donna), Williston, VT, Christopher (wife Debra), Cranberry Township, PA, and Beth, wife of Col. (Ret, USAF) Robert Mahood, Johnstown, PA; grandchildren, Eric, Joseph (wife Chelsea), and Emily Laslo; Timothy, Stephanie, and Chelsea Huber; Alexander (wife Danielle), and Miranda Huber; Madelein and Eamon Mahood; great-granddaughter, Ella Laslo; sister, Theresa Shaffer, Tire Hill, PA; brothers, Louis (wife Margaret), Tire Hill, PA, and Karl, Laguna Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Helen Huber, Johnstown, PA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe graduated in 1945 from Conemaugh Township High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and served on LST 586 and a sea-going tug during WWII and the Korean War. Joe graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1955 and was commissioned as 2nd LT in the US Air Force Reserve. He joined the faculty at Richland Township High School in 1955 to teach chemistry, math and English. Joe transferred to the 876th Engineer Batallion of the PA Army National Guard. He retired as LT Col. in 1982 with 27 years of service and continued to teach in Richland until retiring in 1987 after 32 years. After his retirement, he was active in his St. Lucie Falls, FL community for 18 years during the winter months, serving as Vice President of the RV and Boat Club and Secretary of the Bocce League. Joe loved camping with his wife, children and grandchildren. His gardens in Johnstown and Florida provided him with hours of pride and enjoyment and provided Carolyn with hours of harvesting and canning. Joeâs PVC pipe creations are legendary, as are his methods for keeping birds out of his cherry trees. He supported his family with his love, patience, and sense of humor and will be sadly missed by them and all who knew him. Friends received from 3-8 P.M. on Wednesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland and from 9 A.M. until time of service at 10 A.M. on Thursday at Grove Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edward Schoeneck officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team.
