Bonk, Joseph S., âJoeâ, 93, of East Conemaugh, passed away on November 30, 2011 at Windber Hospice. He was born on March 11, 1918 in Franklin Borough. Son of Valentine and Anastasia (Sewak) Bonk. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna (Hamula) Bonk; brothers, John and Thomas and sisters, Mary, Caroline and Gladys. He is survived by his children, JoAnn wife of Roger Howie, Johnstown, Jeffrey married to the former Sheryl Zwiebel, Clinton, OH and Nancy Madonna, Johnstown; grandchildren, Christine, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Michaelene, Kelly and Ryan; five great grandchildren; siblings, George, IN, Edward, married to the former Rose Lear, and Robert, married to the former Jean Killian, all of Johnstown; brother-in-law, Raymond Mihalek, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a US Navy Veteran serving during WW II. He retired from Conemaugh-Blacklick Rail Road, where he was employed as a Foreman. Joe was a member of St Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church; Conemaugh-Franklin American Legion Post #633; Conemaugh-Franklin Lions Club; Fraternal Order of Eagles #1811; American Turners; American Carpatho Citizens Club; Conemaugh Volunteer Fire Company; Franklin Volunteer Fire Company; Volunteer Firemanâs Association of Cambria Co. and the American Numismatic Association. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and was a kind, loving and generous father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Friends will be received from 2-7 P.M. Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh where Parastas will be sung at 7 P.M. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Saturday at St. Maryâs Byzantine Catholic Church, Msgr. Raymond Balta. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of Joseph.
