John E. Volk

Volk – John E., 89, of East Taylor Township, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2018 at Westmont Woods. Born on July 24, 1929 in Johnstown, son of Herbert and Bertha (Eash) Volk. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gwendolyn J., “Gwen” (Teeter) Volk; brother-in-law, David Hoffman, and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Fetterman and Fay Hart. He is survived by his loving son, Paul G., married to the former Gloria J. Mountain, East Taylor Township; daughter, Susan J., wife of Todd Brown, Cape May, NJ; grandson, David J. Volk, Medford, NJ; sisters, Laverne (Bill) Stephens, Mineral Point, PA, and Gertrude Hoffman, Bedford, PA and several nieces and nephews. John was a 1947 graduate of Conemaugh High School. He was employed delivering mail for the USPS and later was owner and operator of Volk Appliance Service. John was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he took care of the Track Ministry. He was an avid Steeler fan and enjoyed mowing his 4-acre yard, picking blue berries, swimming and reading. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, David. At John’s request there will be no public viewing. Private inurnment will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family is being served by the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh.
