Schmid â Johns C. Jr., âJackâ, 89, Davidsville, formerly of Geistown Borough, went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2014 at Laurel View Village. Born on November 8, 1924 in Johnstown, son of John C. Sr. and Thelma (Berry) Schmid. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Doris Briggs. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Harriet A. (Hastings) Schmid; children, John C. III, married to the former Julie A. Paul, Jackson, MI, Cathy A. Mull, Windber, and Amy L. Noon, Johnstown; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Ardelle Ulerich, Richland Township and many nieces and nephews. Jack was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WW II and the Korean War. Jack retired from General Telephone Company, where he was employed as a Field Engineer. He was a member of St. Paulâs United Church of Christ, where he was the Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon for many years. Jack was also a Past Master of the Greater Johnstown Lodge No. 538 F.&A.M. He enjoyed reading westerns, but especially going to church. Jack was a family man devoted to his wife and children. Friends will be received from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Laurel View Village Chapel with the Rev. Wes Yoder, Rev. William Thwing, and Rev. Jeffrey Bassette officiating. Private interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to Laurel View Village, Caring Fund, 1000 Vista Drive, Davidsville, PA 15928 in memory of Jack.
