McClafferty, John C. Jr., âJackâ, 79, of Stonycreek Township, passed away on December 15, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on January 14, 1932 in Johnstown. Son of the late John C. Sr. and Thelma M. (Wargo) McClafferty. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, James J. McClafferty. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia A. (Boyer) McClafferty; children, Patricia A. McClafferty, Stonycreek Township, Mary Jane wife of Norman J, Makin Jr., Geistown Boro, John C., III, married to the former Leslie I. Peoples, Berryville, VA, Michael P., Slatyfork, WV, Colleen M. Glass, Murrieta, CA, Dennis L., Stonycreek Township, and Jennifer wife of John W. Layton Jr., Rapid City, SD; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Lois A. Kosanovich, Brownstown and Thomas L. (Betty), Vallejo, CA; sister-in-law, Beverly McClafferty, Vallejo, CA; several nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; many friends and his beloved cats, Sunshine, Dusty and Rajah. John was a 1951 graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. John retired after 33 years of service from Bethlehem Steel, where he was employed as a Cost Accountant. After retirement, he was owner and operator of the former McClaffertyâs Key Shop, Johnstown and later was employed at Pinkerton as a Security Officer. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, where he was an Usher, Commentator, and Funeral Server. John was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. John enjoyed wood working, gardening, camping with his family, cooking, and photography. He will be remembered for his generous nature and always had a smile on his face. John will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Friends received from 2-7 P.M. on Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Father David S. Peles, Pastor. Committal will be at St. Josephâs Mausoleum with Military Rites conducted by Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 or to Knights of Columbus #8244, 2310 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of John.
