John A. "Jack" Horten

Horten—John August “Jack,” 82, Johnstown, died at home surrounded by his family on July 16, 2018. Born October 6, 1935, in Johnstown, son of the late John Henry and Margaret (Koch) Horten. Survived by wife of 53 years, the former DeVoy Buzzard, whom he married in 1965; children, John Eric (Cheryl) Horten; Tracy (Kirk) Gennett; and Aaron (Kristine) Horten; grandchildren, Colton and Caden Gennett; Carter and Porter Horten; John Wyatt, Reagan, Maxwell and Tanner Horten. Jack was a veteran of the Air National Guard. He was a member of the United States Trotting Association (USTA) and was an accredited driver and trainer for nearly 40 years. In addition to 20 years of employment at Bethlehem Steel, Jack was also an independent home builder. At Jack’s request, private services will be held for his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude (stjude.org) or The American Cancer Society (cancer.org) in memory of Jack.
