Dougherty, John J.,â Redâ, âJackâ, âDocâ, 81, of Upper Yoder. Died Oct. 3, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born April 18, 1933 in Johnstown. Son of the late James and Ida (Dunmyer) Dougherty. Preceded in death by parents, sister Betty Truscello, niece Maureen Truscello, and Ronald Ifft; grandsons Devon Polasko and Cole Campbell. Survived by wife Mary Jane (Link) of 61 years celebrated on October 3, 2014; children: Michael (Danielle Lemon), Conroe, TX; Anne (Thomas Zepka, Jr.), Mark, Timothy (Roxanne Brazill),all of Johnstown, Daniel, New York City; Kelly (Ed Polasko), Amy, Shaun (Dr. DâArcy Duke) all of Johnstown, Joy (George Campbell) Pittsburgh; Grandchildren: Erin Kovac, Wendy (Joe Meyer), Jennifer Zepka, Michelle Dougherty, Todd Dougherty, Brandon Polasko, Seth Dougherty, Jordan Polasko, Emily Brazill, Regan Campbell; Great Grandchildren: Collin Dougherty , Jalen Kovac, Skylar Kovac, Nolan Meyer ; Siblings: Marjorie Magdelinic, Barbara Zeglin, Ruth Wright, Patrick Dougherty, Peggy Riek; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
An Army veteran serving during the Korean War (1953-1954). He worked as a Third Helper and rose to be Supervisor of the Franklin Open Hearth Dept. of Bethlehem Steel. Member of St. Clement parish; coached numerous boys and girls sports teams at St. Clementâs, including the 1966 boys Greater Johnstown Parochial School champions grades 5-6 in basketball. Also coached several years for Boys West Suburban Little League. Member of St. Clementâs bowling league for over 25 years. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildrenâs sporting events and activities. He played golf at Berkley Hills golf course. Some of his favorite past times were going to casinos, watching the Steelers, Pirates and Notre Dame football games but most of all being surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed. His Irish wit has always kept us laughing. Friends received 2-8 PM Monday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where Vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 Tuesday at St Clement Catholic Church. Fr. William E. Rosenbaum, Pastor.
