Davis – Joan Marie, 84, Johnstown, PA peacefully answered the Lord’s call and entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
Born on September 18, 1940 in Johnstown, daughter of Oppie Judge and Mary J. Anthony. Preceded in death by her husband Joseph Seeley Davis, Sr.; parents Oppie Judge and Mary Anthony; sisters Lois L. Gethers, Grace G. Jenkins, Jean L. Anthony; brothers-in-law William B. Davis, McKinley Jenkins, R. Pete Jones; sisters-in-law Shirley A. Davis and Viola I. Anthony.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Apryle M. Davis and Joseph S. Davis Jr., both of Johnstown; grandchildren Chloe C. Barrett, Johnstown, Elizabeth G. Hamlett and her fiancée Atila Libutsi, Gaithersburg, MD, Tiffany A. Myers and fiancé Raymond Aragon, Long Beach, CA, Cory D. (Jennifer) Allen, San Diego, CA, Joseph S. Davis III, Rujahrie J. (Joseph) Maldonado, Jahsha S. Davis, Jaden V. Cresciullo, all of Harrisburg, Jahdason J. Davis, Johnstown; great grandchildren Zyaire Taylor, Caleb Dawkins, Grayson and Sebastian Aragon, Jamir and Zion Allen, Journey Davis, Amari Johnson; siblings Robert D. Anthony, Johnstown and Patsy L. Jones, Millersburg; dedicated son-in-law W. Roselle Hamlett; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was proud of her life-long relationship with the “Franklin Girls”, Mary (Bunzy) McCray, Yvonne (Pickle) Watkins, Verna Mae Carter, LaRue Suttle, and Yvonne (Bon) Cooper of Franklin Borough, PA.
Joan Marie was a 1960 graduate of Franklin High School. She was one of the first African American majorettes, participated in the glee club, chorus, and comedy club. Joan Marie was a member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church for more than 70 years, she served as a junior usher, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Kitchen Club. She was employed at Riverside Market, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Glosser Brothers, and Penn Traffic Furniture store during her working years. She was a Daughter of Mecca Temple #294. Joan Marie enjoyed cooking, baking, and pottery. Her most prized dessert was her pineapple pie! She loved fashion and interior decorating, but especially loved spending time with her family.
Friends and family will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, March 21st, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd, at Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church. Rev. Maurice T. Williams will be officiating the homegoing service.
