Bassett – Jerry Ray, 77, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2017 at Windber Hospice. Born on October 4, 1939 in Johnstown, son of Raymond and Louella (Martin) Bassett. Preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Irene (Hochstein) Bassett, and brother, Forrest. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Doris J. (Umbaugh) McMahon-Bassett, Johnstown; step daughter, Sally Marshalek, Saxonburg, PA; 2 step grandchildren; sister, Joann “Jo”, wife of Larry Leidy, Sumter, SC; many friends, including special friends, Dave and Eugene; several nieces, nephews, and his little companion, K.C. Jerry was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Jerry retired in 1994 from Ward Trucking after 21 years of service as a truck driver. He was a member of Pleasant Hills Church of the Brethren. Jerry enjoyed hunting, boating at Raystown Lake, life member of the NRA, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved eating out with his family and friends and will be remembered for his great sense of humor. At Jerry’s request, there will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Robert Wolf. Private inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family at Benshoff Hill Cemetery. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Contributions may be directed to either Camp Harmony, 1414 Plank Rd, Hooversville, PA 15936 or to the Humane Society of Cambria County, 743 Galleria Drive Ext, Johnstown, PA 15904 in memory of Jerry.
