James E. Orr Jr.

Orr - James E. Jr., “Jim”, 78, formerly of Westmont, passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2017 at Windber Hospice with his children and grandchildren at his side. Jim was born on November 9, 1938 in Johnstown and raised here. Preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; parents, James E. Orr Sr. and Carolyn (Noble) Orr; his sisters, Enid Miller and Susann Carney and brothers-in-law, Bob Miller and Frank Carney. He is survived by his son, James “Jim” III, husband of Laura (Devett); daughter Kathryn “Katy”, wife of Jeffrey Hoover, all of Johnstown, and son Daniel “Dan”, husband of Taunya (Barbero), Philadelphia, as well as Jim’s kids, Kayla, Maxwell, Kassidy, Margaret, Jonathan, and Bryan; Katy’s kids, Alison, Kelsey and Taylor, and Dan’s kids, Andrew, Gregory, and Jacob, as well as eleven nieces and nephews and their families. He was employed by and became president of Davis Brake Beam Company; a member of Company B, 1st Bn 103d Armor, PAARNG; and attended Westmont Presbyterian Church for many years before taking a position with Buffalo Brake Beam and relocating. After retiring, he and his wife, Roberta, then moved to Sun City West, AZ where he resided until being preceded in death by Roberta in 2012. Jim then moved back to Johnstown to be with his children and grandchildren and resided at Laurel View Village until completing his life’s circle at Windber Hospice. He enjoyed golf, history, reading, and putting puzzles together with his grandkids. During his recent years at Laurel View, he enjoyed time with family and friends and became very fond of Pastor Jeff’s activities there. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Laurel View Village Chapel with the Rev. Jeffrey Bassette, officiating. The family is being served by the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Contributions may be directed to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963 in memory of James.
